This woman had nowhere else to go. She couldn’t take another punch, another blow, another fist. She left all of her dignity and fled to the church naked.

Without even a covering for her body her angry husband beat her over and over and over again.

When she arrived at the church she was given a covering to put on her body.

Do you see the ache in her eyes? the desperation?

What would you tell her if she ran to you? What would you do to help her if she fled to you for safety?

Sadly, this is the same story and same plight for so many women in Uganda.

Men are elevated and women are oppressed.

The Ugandan women are not held in high esteem or loved as Christ has loved the church.

Many are married to men who have multiple wives.

Many have been chased from their homes by their husbands or his other wives.

Many are beaten over and over again. . .blow by blow.

Ugandan men feel their wives must be whipped into shape, that is okay to spank them, that they are justified in this horrible injustice. I had a group of Ugandan women tell me, “I know my husband loves me when he beats me.”

I felt like someone had punched me in the stomach when they said this to me. These precious souls have been deceived. They are worth so much more than a blow by an angry fist.

This is Dorothy. She is apart of Margret’s Voice, Bunga-Love Project. She is so very happy to have a sponsor as part of her life. Her sponsor has shown her the love of Jesus. . . the love she so desperately needed, the love she so desperately lacked.

Dorothy loves to attend the Project meetings every Thursday. It is a time of beautiful worship, wonderful encouragement and fellowship with her sisters in the LORD. . . a time to be built up when every other day of her life she is torn down.

I wonder if this child will grow up to repeat the cycle. . . repeat what he has been surrounded by his whole life?

I wonder if Dorothy tries to muffle her cries and muffle her screams just to protect the ears and hearts of her children?

I wonder if the encouragement and love she receives from her sisters in the LORD at the Project meetings is worth the beatings?

I wonder, what would it be like for Dorothy if she had a way out? an escape? a place of safety to go to where she will never have to be a victim of abuse again?

A house, maybe? A place where she could live and work the garden and teach her children about the love of Jesus?

A house that would bring her hope and bring restoration to her heart.

This is our hope and our desire . . . To provide a home where abused women can come and live.

A place where they can tend and work a garden.

A place where they can learn to disciple their children.

A place where they can live in community and encourage one another in the LORD.

A place where they are safe, free from the blows and the abuse.

We tell these women, “You can be apart of the change for the next generation. There is hope for your children. You are an influence in their lives. You can influence your children for Jesus Christ.”

However, when children grow up in an abusive home, statistics tell us they will either grow up to be an abuser or grow up to be abused.

Let’s all purpose in our hearts to help these women be a change for the next generation, to influence their children for Jesus Christ and not just merely surviving the beatings.
