The precious smile of a child can melt the heart of just about any human being.
The way a child is so carefree, so full of joy, and seemingly so innocent, it’s a natural gravitation for our hearts to ache for the children.
They are our future. We feel they can be given hope; after all, they’re still young, still very tender, still so innocent. We desire to pour into them because there still seems to be hope for them.
But what about that woman back there in the background? Do you see her? She has no time to pause and smile for the camera, as she is busy and concerned to take care of these little ones that so grip our hearts.
This one . . . that is bent over, tackling the laundry by hand to care for the ones with the little feet, the little hands, and the big smiles.
We’ve become so accustomed to labeling the precious children as the least of these, that we’ve lost sight.
We’ve lost sight of those mothers who have birthed these babes . . .
. . . those mothers who care for their every need.
. . . those mothers who know the ache and the hardship of life in Uganda.
. . . those mothers who tirelessly search and search for school fees for these babies.
. . . those mothers who know the cries of their babies because their tummies have been without food for days.
. . . those mothers who would do the shameful, the unthinkable, the risky in order to provide shelter for a place for these precious children.
. . . those mothers who have had to bravely hand their children over to a relative or an orphanage just so their child’s basic needs of living can be cared for.

What about them?
The forgotten, the abused, the betrayed . . .the least of these?
Where is help for them?
Where is hope for them?
Where is a heart gripped for them?
The words of my Papa echo in my head and in my heart, “Shuggah, as long as there’s breath in the body, there’s hope.”
Hope. Yes, that powerful four-letter word. . . HOPE.
It’s never too late to offer someone hope. It’s never to late to help the hurting, the shamed, the betrayed, the least of these.
Jesus tell us in Matthew 25:31-46, ““But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.
“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
“Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not [a]take care of You?’ Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Whatever we do unto the least of these we do unto Jesus.
So, how are we doing? How are we doing unto these women? Sponsorship goes to help provide food, school fees, or rent. When we sponsor a Mama we are doing unto Jesus Himself with feeding, clothing, medical care, school fees, or rent. What a joy!!!
When we take care of that Mama, then we automatically take care of that baby.
Hope. . . as long as there’s breath in the body, there’s hope.
Oh, I love this so much: when we take care of the Mama, we take care of the baby. Yes, indeed. So beautiful. Thank you for this. I’m gonna write that phrase down and take it to work with me. 🙂
So beautiful. I love that you shared love for the mothers of the orphans. As a foster mama to many I have seen the faces of hurting mothers and I have been behind the scenes caring for many children at once. God has allowed me the opportunity to keep in touch with at least one mama and use that connection for His glory. May our hearts and eyes be open to the need around us so that He can direct our gaze and focus for His purposes.
